Want to take your basketry to the next level?  Try adding a fancy handle to your next basket project.

Here's a couple ideas to look at:

  1. Blue Streak Melon Basket

  2. Tree Hugger Square Basket

  3. Black Tie Affair Basket

  4. Grandma's 4-Lobed

Breaking it down:

The Blue Streak Melon basket uses a warped system with a false handle on either side of the handle.  This enables a twill pattern to be used of over two under two on the handle itself with blue reed.

The Tree Hugger Square basket uses that same warped system BUT includes 3 false rims.  The twill design starts at one point with each consecutive weaver going on one further on the warp.

The Black Tie Affair uses stakes as a means to warp the handle.  The twill design is again a two over/two under technique.

Grandma's 4-Lobed Basket once again uses the false handle on both sides of the handle and is warped for a twill design.  The twill design on this basket is a 3-over, 1-under, variation.
